La Palapa is one of the first restaurants we tried when we stayed in Puerto Vallarta outside of the resorts.
The ambiance is definitely the highlight of the location as you get to dine on the beach. Sunset becomes romantic with candlelight lighting the tables as the skies change magnificient colors.
This was not a vegetarian friendly restaurant as the only real option was a “vegan symphony” which my wife did not care to try. I ended up trying the Grilled Pacific Octopus as an appetizer and the boneless short rib for dinner and both dishes were tasty.
Being on the beach, service was just ok as the staff didn’t check on us often and we had to try and flag people down to get refills on drinks.
This is no fault of the restaurant but fair warning that you will have to deal with people trying to sell you things on the beach which was distracting. It also felt awful to be eating such expensive food while kids were trying to sell candy.
